Fall Edition
2020
What did you do during the COVID-19 lockdown? ...

This year has been one of the most unexpected and certainly, unprecedented experiences for all of us. But we have adapted to Zoom calls, sheltering in place (literally), and discovered resourceful ways manage the delicate work-life balance.

We continue to assist our clients in program evaluation, EM&V planning, and exciting market research activities. But, we have also spent our "lockdown" developing two new creative endeavors. First, I refined my first novel, "Grit & Granite," and am now ready to relaunch it on its new, dedicated website (www.kjwrites.com). Check out my new book trailer and pick up your copy at Amazon or my website. I have learned so much about the intricacies of fiction writing and publishing in the past year. Thanks to everyone for your support and positive feedback.

I have also joined forces with 12 other successful woman owners to share our journey about overcoming obstacles and developing successful business strategies. Together, we share our stories in the second book in the Pink Shoe Sisters Series, "Breaking Through." It's on track to become an Amazon best-seller (too). I hope you enjoy the stories from these amazing women representing a diverse group of industries (Women In Business: Breaking Through).

Please stay safe during these challenging times, and we look forward to reconnecting with you in the New Year.
Best regards,
Dr. Katherine Johnson, President
Arkansas Adapts to Changing Energy Markets

The Arkansas Public Service Commission (PSC) just approved the Technical Resource Manual V8.2 (TRM V 8.2). This new version incorporates the changes in the lighting marketplace (i.e., EISA backstop). It provides updated guidance on calculating non-energy benefits, tracking recommendations from program evaluation activities, and documenting savings from its statewide Consistent Weatherization Approach (CWA) Program.

The PSC also extended our contract as the Independent Evaluation Monitor (IEM) through PY2022. During the next three years, we will continue building on Arkansas's successes and assisting the Parties Working Collaboratively (PWC) as they explore new topics in the energy efficiency market. We are deeply grateful for this opportunity.
Block Island-Building an Energy Efficiency Program

Together with Michaels Energy, we will be supporting the development and administration of an island-wide residential and small commercial program in Rhode Island. We are working with The Block Island Power Company and the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources to develop the program tracking database and provide ongoing support for its launch of two new rebate programs. This effort builds on the lessons from a previous pilot program and includes developing the tools to determine overall program cost-effectiveness tests as defined in the Rhode Island test.

The programs will launch by the end of the year, and we look forward to conducting a "site" visit in the summer to this lovely spot-when it's safe to travel again. (Block Island Power Company).
Proving the Savings in the "Show Me" State

The Johnson Consulting Group team has been working on program evaluations for several Missouri gas and electric utilities. We just completed a comprehensive program evaluation of Spire's Residential Space and Water Heating Program and its Commercial and Industrial Prescriptive and Custom Programs.

These results illustrate that Missouri's largest gas utility has developed innovative, engaging, and successful ways to promote gas energy efficiency solutions to its customers. Spire has also developed some creative marketing approaches that reinforce the importance of investing in energy efficiency gas appliances. The utility even provides some holiday cooking tips.

We are also conducting the EM&V activities for Summit Natural Gas' (MO) of its Equipment Rebate Program (ERP), launched was in 2018. We will provide highlights and key takeaways from our final EM&V report, due in February 2021.

We are also completing process evaluation activities as a subcontractor to ADM Associates (Evergy), the new company formed from the merger of KCP&L and Westar Energy. We will be leading the process evaluation activities for its Demand Response and New Pilot Programs for the next three-year program cycle.

Our team is so pleased to have such great utility clients that are committed to providing innovative energy efficiency programs for both gas and electric customers.
